August 30, 2012 - Happy 3 Month Old Twins!

Today, Adam and Kylee turned 13 weeks old!  We cannot believe they are three months old already!  It is hard to imagine life before them.

Adam is still in the hospital but has graduated to the big kid nursery where babies stay before they go home.  Adam has been in the Neonatal ICU (NICU) 91 days.  He is taking all of his feedings by bottle now and is no longer getting any help breathing.  His eye surgery was a success and his eyes are developing normally.  Adam now weighs 5 pounds, 4.8 ounces.  He is a big boy!  He is getting closer and closer to coming home every day.

Kylee is running the household.  She is such a little sweet pea!  She talks all day and talks all night.  We cannot imagine what life will be like when Kylee learns words!  We are guessing Adam's first words will be, "Quiet, Kylee!"  Adam is the quiet one of the two, at least for now...  Kylee lights up a room with her big, beautiful smiles.  She now weighs 4 pounds, 12 ounces.

Mommy and Daddy are exhausted and looking forward to Adam coming home.  They are looking forward to finding out what it is like not to go to the hospital every day.  They cannot imagine what it will be like with two infants at home!

Many have asked how long this blog will continue.  I am going to keep it up for the moment on a weekly basis to keep everyone up-to-date on the twins' progress.  If there is a major event within that timeframe, like Adam coming home, there may be an interim blog.  At some point, it may become a monthly blog.  Wow, imagine the twins' lives so uneventful that we could go a month!  They have come a long way already! If you would like to keep up with the twin's updates and be notified when there is a new one, you can subscribe to this blog.

Thank you for all of the prayers, love, kindness and positive energy.  It is greatly appreciated and we appreciate everyone's support as we have made our way on this journey.  Today was a good day.

Today was a good day for the twins.

Adam is recovering beautifully from his eye surgery and tonight had those beautiful eyes open looking all around.  He was just finishing up a bottle feeding when I arrived so I got to hold him for a little bit when he was done.  He is SO much bigger than Kylee!  Adam now weighs 5 pounds, 0.5 ounces!

Kylee is doing wonderful.  She is getting used to the routine at home and is such a little sweet pea - Princess Sweet Pea.  She and Adam have a way of filling your heart with joy just by looking into their eyes.

Thank you for all the prayers, love, kindness, support, and understanding.  We are coming to the final stretch as Adam gets stronger every day.  Today was a good day.

Today was a good day for the twins.

Adam is getting stronger every day.  He is doing more and more bottle feeds all the time.  He was sleeping when I visited him today.  He was resting up so Mommy could come feed him his bottle.  He is such a sweet, adorable boy.

Kylee is settling into her home routine.  She is sleeping longer periods now and getting into a regular routine.  She is such a sweetheart.

Thank you for the prayers, love, kindness, and support.  It is greatly appreciated.  Today was a good day for the twins.

August 23, 2012 - Happy 12 Week Old Twins!

Today was a good day for the twins.  Today Adam and Kylee are twelve weeks old!  I had to check a calendar - could they really be that old already?!

Adam is doing very well.  He is taking more and more bottle feedings and is keeping his numbers steady.  If he keeps up this pace he will be home before we know it!  He is such a good little boy.  He is in a very crowded nursery right by the entrance where everyone has to walk past him.  The nurses' work station is right across from his crib and very busy.  Adam just takes it all in stride.  He lets you know about it once in a while but settles right back down.

Kylee had a very busy day.  She went on her first date with her Daddy to the eye doctor.  Everything checked out okay.  Daddy said he couldn't get down the hall to the doctor's office without people stopping him to see her and tell him how adorable she is.  She is such a big girl... but such a peanut!  Kylee loves to look at herself in the mirror.  Today she watched her pacifier in the mirror, reached for it, aimed it at her mouth, then held it.  I know, no big deal, but she is so tiny to do something like that!  We read our first book together today, Dr Suess's ABCs.  Emily remembers us reading it to her when she was a little girl.

Thank you for the prayers, love, positive thoughts, understanding, kindness, and support.  We are very, very grateful.  Today was a good day for Adam and Kylee.

Today was a good day for the twins.

Adam is recovering well from his eye surgery.  He is also doing very well with his bottle feedings.  He is such a cutie pie!  His breathing is doing very well.  He was about to eat when I saw him this afternoon.  He doesn't have bottle feeding down the way Kylee does, but he is getting it and doing very well.

Kylee is running the household at this point.  She is so adorable!  She can suck down a bottle quick!  She continues to enjoy listening to Jazz and Classical music.

Life is even more hectic with one baby home and one still in the hospital.  It is a constant test of logistics!

Thank you for your prayers, love, kindness, and support.  We deeply appreciate it.  Today was a good day for the twins.

Today was a good day for the twins.

Adam is recovering beautifully from his eye surgery.  However, the surgery could not completely correct his vision so he has suffered some permanent loss of his peripheral vision.  The condition Adam had is called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).  Adam was moved back to Nursery B because they are renovating the nursery he was in.  It is VERY crowded in this nursery and very noisy. But, sweet, mellow Adam was sleeping right through it all.  Adam now weighs 4 pounds, 14.6 ounces.

Kylee had a very busy day today.  She went for her first Pediatrician appointment and got a great bill of health.   Kylee now weighs 4 pounds, 1 ounce.  After her visit to the doctor, Kylee got to go visit Grandma Glenda (Mema) and Grandpa Robin for the first time.

Thank you for the prayers, love, wonderfully kind words, and continuous support.  We are deeply grateful.  Today was a good day for the twins.

Today was a difficult day for Adam and a great day for Kylee.

Adam had a difficult day today with eye surgery this afternoon.  But he came through it great!  He is such a sweet little boy with the most beautiful eyes.  He is resting comfortably tonight.  Adam now weighs 4 pounds, 13 ounces.

Kylee is running the household, keeping everyone hopping.  She is doing great as she acclimates to being home.  She is such a little sweetheart.  Kylee is definitely a talker.  She chatters day and night and tells anyone who wants to hear about it.

Thank you for all of the prayers, love, kindness, and support.  We are deeply grateful.  Today was a difficult day for Adam and a great day for Kylee.

Today was a good day for the twins.

Adam had no Bradys or drops today.  Our little man had his bath today and really enjoyed it.  It wore him out so he was sleeping this afternoon when I visited.  He is such an adorable little boy.  He is doing very well with his bottle feedings, getting a bottle every third feeding.  We are all anxious about his eye surgery tomorrow but we are hoping it is not too traumatic for him and is successful.

Kylee had her first bath at home this morning.  She thoroughly enjoyed it too.  Mommy and Daddy are not getting much sleep at the moment because Ms Kylee talks all the time, all night long.  She is such a cutie pie!  We have found that she really likes listening to Jazz.  It makes her smile.

Thank you for all of the prayers, love, kind words, well wishes, and support.  We are very grateful and feel very blessed.  Today was a good day for the twins.

August 18, 2012

Today was a mixed day for the twins.

Adam had another eye exam today and he is having issues with his eyes.  This condition can cause blindness so on Monday he is having laser surgery to correct it.  Poor little boy, on top of that he had three Bradys (stops/forgets breathing) today after going so long without one.  It could just be due to him being traumatized by the eye exam.  It was a rough day for Adam, Mommy and Daddy.  Except for the Bradys and his eye issue, Adam is doing very well.  He was sleeping peacefully tonight and he is doing very well with his bottle feedings.  Adam now weighs 4 pounds, 12.7 ounces and is heading for 5 pounds!  He is such a sweetheart!

Kylee is doing very well as she adjusts to home life.  Last night was a long one for Mommy and Daddy as they adjusted to a baby in the house.  Grandma Flo got to babysit Kylee today while Mommy and Daddy went to visit Adam.  We had a grand old time together.  She is such a talker!  She talked about coming home and all the new things she is experiencing.  She is such a sweetheart!

Thank you for the prayers, love, kindness, and support.  Please say an extra prayer for Adam as his eye surgery nears.  Today was a good day and a not-so-great day.

August 17, 2012 - Welcome Home Kylee!

Today was a very good day for the twins.

Kylee came home today after 78 days in the NICU.  She had some big firsts today - her first car ride and her first time home.  She is such an adorable peanut!  When she left the NICU today, Kylee weighed 3 pounds, 10.6 ounces.

Meanwhile, Adam is getting double the attention now in the NICU nursery.  His nurse today had only him to care for so he was getting extra attention.  He is such a cutie pie!  She said it is the one time in his life he will enjoy being the only child.  ... and he was enjoying it, getting all kinds of attention!  Adam now weighs 4 pounds, 10.6 ounces - exactly one pound more than Kylee.

Mommy and Daddy are over the moon to have Kylee, their Princess Sweet Pea, home.  It was very hard to bring her home without Adam though.  Soon they will both be together again though, home, where they belong!

Thank you for the prayers, love, warm wishes, and support.  We are very grateful.  Today was a very good day.

August 16, 2011 - Happy Eleven Week Old Twins!

Today was a very good day for the twins.  Today Adam and Kylee turn 11 weeks old!

Adam is doing very well with his two bottles a day.  He is still getting a little bit of help breathing.  Adam is probably two or three weeks from coming home although that could change at any time.  All he has to do is figure out remembering to breathe and get that sucking, breathing, swallowing coordination thing down and he will be right behind Kylee coming home.  He is starting to figure it all out.  Personally, I think Kylee has been coaching him!

Kylee is doing very well after being taken off her feeding tube.  Mommy fed her a bottle this afternoon and she sucked it down.  Tomorrow, after 78 days, Kylee will be coming home!!!  Mommy and Daddy are VERY excited!  It has been a long journey since May 31st.  It is a little bittersweet with Adam staying behind in the hospital, but we are so blessed he is doing as well as he is and has no complications.

Thank you for the prayers, love, thoughtfulness, light, and positive energy.  Every day is a gift.  Today was a very good day.

August 15, 2012 - A Very Exciting Day!

Today was a very good day for the twins.

Adam is up to two bottle feedings a day and drank all of both of them last night.  What a big boy!  When Grandpa Dan and I visited today Adam was sleeping but having quite the conversation.  We think he has been hanging around Kylee!  Adam now weighs 4 pounds, 6.5 ounces.

Kylee, was just finishing a bottle when we visited.  She is back to herself today, she looked better and was chattering up a storm.  Kylee is now taking every feeding by bottle and finishes them all.  She had her feeding tube removed this afternoon.  Kylee is such an over-achiever!  She now weighs 3 pounds, 13.1 ounces.

Eric and Emily got word this afternoon that Kylee will be coming home on Friday!!!  Daddy tells it best, "Well we were in today for occupational therapy and a Babies Basics class and in between things we ran into their doctor. Well he surprised us with the news that Kylee is coming home Friday. We are so excited and to a point running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to get all the last minute stuff done. Will be a crazy next two days but so looking forward to Kylee coming home."  Words we have been waiting almost eleven weeks to hear!  Kylee got fitted for her car seat today and is ready to go!

Thank you so much for your prayers, love, kindness, and support along this journey.  We appreciate you more than we could ever express.  Today was a very good day for the twins.
